HISTORY OF BARANGAY CANAL

Long time ago, Barangay Canal was originally part of Barangay Calalinan. This place was situated in Eatern part of the said Barangay. A long the shores just next to the town proper, the SIQUIJOR people in this place were religious. There were no stores found in this place so they will buy their daily needs in the market, in going to the market and the church, they will pass through the river, there was no road or other way than to cross. When it is high tide the river grows deeper at about 1m high and when it is low tide the flow of the river were also strong.

To this situation, the barangay folks decided to build a wooden bridge for them to cross anytime they want. Few years passed, they agreed to construct a road, which is made of big stones. Since then, the people who are living on the eastern part, when asked by a stranger “where do you live?”. They answered “were living in Canal”, until the times comes that the road was constructed and a concrete canal was made.

As the years passed the population grows bigger so they decided to separate the place from Barangay Calalinan and they called it “BARANGAY CANAL”.
